Sen. Cantwell and Sen. Stabenow visit WSU Wenatchee R&E Center

On Saturday, June 10th Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, visited WSU’s Wenatchee Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center, where the Cosmic Crisp apple and WA-64 apple were created.

Their visit to the to R&E Center was to see first-hand the needs of the nearly 70-year-old research facility.

The Senators were able to see up close the needed upgrades and infrastructure improvements necessary to continue the 21st century research taking place at WSU.

“This is a key moment for all of us to think about our changing environment, the challenges of getting to overseas markets that we want to have access to, the amount of money we want to see in ag research, [and] the progress we want to keep making in helping this sector thrive and grow,” Sen. Cantwell said.
