Coug Day at the Capitol

Dozens of WSU students flooded the rainy state Capitol grounds today to press their priorities as part of the annual Coug Day at the Capitol.

Students from throughout the WSU system returned in force before dawn this morning. Top agenda items for the 95 meetings on their schedules today included legislation extending terms of the Washington College Grant, fully funding legislation supporting students’ basic needs, along with rent stabilization and childcare efforts.

Students separated into groups to meet with lawmakers and visited the Lieutenant Governor’s office and the Office of the Secretary of State as well. 83 students participated from WSU’s Tri-Cities, Pullman, Vancouver, Everett, and Global campuses. These visits support the work of three full-time student lobbyists from the Vancouver and Pullman campuses, who represent WSU’s undergraduate and graduate and professional student bodies.

Washington State University’s Student Government Council organized the event, which was a collaborative effort between Associated Students of Washington State University and the Graduate and Professional Student Association. This effort is intended to provide WSU students with the opportunity to meet with state legislators and discuss higher education priorities.
