Dowd appointed to The Science Coalition board

Jacob Dowd, assistant director of federal relations at WSU, has been elected to the Board of Directors for The Science Coalition (TSC), a nonpartisan organization which advocates for federal support for scientific research.

As a member of the board, Dowd will position WSU in key conversations as TSC works with member institutions to articulate the impacts and value of an investment in fundamental scientific research to stimulate the economy, spur innovation, and drive American competitiveness.

In addition to WSU’s TSC membership, the appointment will strengthen opportunities to highlight WSU research and researchers across the system at the national level. TSC’s ongoing national advocacy efforts include their Science is Everyone: Voices in STEM campaign, targeted op-eds (like this one, which appeared in RealClearScience and featured a WSU example), regularly updated public polling, and the yearly Fund it Forward Student Video Challenge.

Established in 1994, The Science Coalition is made up of more than 50 of the nation’s leading public and private research universities. WSU has been a member since 2013.
