Following a unanimous vote of the state Senate, Sam Hunt’s appointment to the Washington State University Board of Regents was confirmed on Monday.
Regent Hunt, a member of the WSU Class of 1970 and a proud Coug, served in the Legislature for 24 years and retired this past January from serving the 22nd Legislative District in both the state House and Senate. Hunt grew up in Yakima and after serving as a schoolteacher in Pasco, he joined the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. Hunt then spent time in Washington D.C. as a staffer for the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee before coming back and joining the state Senate as education advisor to Gov. Booth Gardner, and later legislative director for the state Department of Information Services.
During the confirmation vote Senator Drew MacEwen rose to speak on Hunt’s behalf noting his enthusiasm and support for his beloved Cougars. Senator Lisa Wellman also rose in support of the nomination, acknowledging Hunt’s passionate efforts in encouraging every citizen to vote and his work on the current voting system as chair of the Senate State Government committee.
Former Governor Jay Inslee appointed Regent Hunt last December for a term will expire on September 30th 2030.
