President Cantwell visits Olympia

WSU President Elizabeth Cantwell spent time in Olympia on Friday, meeting with legislators who gathered for the state Legislature’s Committee Days ahead of the legislative session that begins in January.

After getting into many communities with legislators this summer and fall, Cantwell walked the Capitol halls and continued to get to know more of the state’s legislative delegation. In advocating for the university’s priorities, Cantwell emphasized how WSU remains eager and ready to partner with state leaders.
Legislative budget writers are grappling with a deficit in the current biennium of about $1.5 billion that has been driven by slower than anticipated tax revenue growth, which has been outpaced by spending. Lawmakers will gather again in Olympia on Jan. 12 to convene its 60-day 2026 legislative session.
