Washington State University Executive Vice President Sandra Haynes recently joined U.S. Senator Patty Murray and higher education leaders from across the North Puget Sound for a roundtable discussion focused on the future of higher education, federal support for students, and the critical role universities play in research, workforce development, and community success.
Hosted by Senator Murray, the discussion provided an important opportunity for college and university leaders to share updates on their institutions, discuss challenges facing students and campuses, and highlight the impacts of changing federal policies and funding streams. The conversation underscored the importance of sustained federal investment in programs that help students access and complete high-quality degrees.
Representing Washington State University and WSU Everett, EVP Haynes highlighted the university’s commitment to expanding access to higher education, supporting student success, and conducting impactful research that benefits communities across Washington and the nation.
EVP Haynes also emphasized WSU’s role as a statewide system that delivers hands-on learning, industry-aligned academic programs, and research that strengthens Washington’s economy. She reminded everyone present that Washington does not have a talent shortage, and the state needs to expand pathways to degree attainment.
