Efficiency bill goes to Governor’s desk

On Tuesday, the state Senate voted 49-0 to recede their amendment to the House’s version of higher education efficiency legislation, providing final passage of the measure.

House Bill 2613 would align reporting requirements, provide flexibility with payroll procedures and reduce inflationary costs on some construction projects, improving efficiency in business practices.

Last week, the Senate passed an amended version of HB 2613 and returned to the House for a concurrence vote. The amendment would have increased the total allowable bonded indebtedness of the Washington Higher Education Facilities Authority from $1 billion to $1.5 billion. The House ruled the amendment beyond the scope and object of the bill, refusing to concur, and asked the Senate to withdraw.

The bill now heads to Governor Jay Inslee’s desk for signature.
