No changes in latest budget proposals

New operating and capital budget proposals introduced by leaders in the House of Representatives yesterday morning showed little change over prior versions. You can find operating budget documents here and capital budget documents here.

The operating budget proposal continues to show no general reduction to higher education and states that new engineering enrollments must be provided within existing resources.

The two-bill construction budget proposal continues to provide $6 million in state support to help finish construction of the Biomedical and Health Sciences Building in Spokane, with the university authorized to use university building fees to service debt for the remaining $30 million that is needed.

It also provides state support for $1.8 million in engineering lab equipment.

The new proposals do not constitute a final agreement. Lawmakers must reach a compromise in time for Tuesday’s scheduled adjournment of the current special session. Otherwise, another special session may be required.
