Revenue collections flat as forecast looms

A new report out this week continues to show state revenues coming in almost exactly as predicted.

Collections were actually up by $15.1 million, but that was driven entirely by one-time events and other noneconomic factors.

Since the February revenue forecast, collections are $24.8 million higher. That’s one half of 1 percent.

The next forecast is due to be issued June 20 and all signs point to a flat forecast. The good news is this continues a recent trend in which revenues have stopped declining. The bad news is they aren’t increasing as quickly as they do in more typical economic recoveries. And that means fewer resources available to make new enhancements in all sorts of pubic services, including higher education.
