Legislature convenes today for regular session

The Legislature will convene at noon today to begin the longer 105 day regular session that falls on every odd calendar year and get to work on writing the next two-year budget for the state.

With another budget shortfall facing the state, The Seattle Times published an article yesterday outlining the top issues to watch for this session including the budget proposal from the state’s public four-year higher ed. institutions suggesting $225 million in funding to freeze tuition.  You can find our previous coverage on the budget proposal here.

Today 21 new House members and 12 new senators will be sworn in to office and all eyes will be on the Senate as they form their committee and leadership structure for the session.
