Times: Students use programs to decrease costs, shorten time to degree

The Seattle Times reported Saturday that with tuition and student loan debt increases, students are beginning to take advantage of new and existing state programs to lessen the burden these increases impose on earning a degree and starting a career. The article highlights recent and soon-to-be graduates who have used such programs.

“The cost savings is just amazing,” Joseph Nutting told the Times.  Nutting earned a degree online in business administration from WSU, taking classes on nights and weekends so that he would not have to sell his café in Vancouver and move across the state for his studies.

WSU launched its Global Campus last summer.  It creates a college experience similar to the one students receive on physical campuses with online career fairs, academic showcases, and its own student government, all while allowing students to manage their courses to best fit their needs.
