Committee contemplates bill regarding industrial hemp production

The House Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government heard public testimony last Thursday on House Bill 1888 which would authorize the director of the Department of Agriculture to issue licenses for the growing of industrial hemp.

The bill designates industrial hemp as an agricultural product which may be grown, produced, processed, and commercially traded, and authorizes Washington State University to undertake research regarding industrial hemp production in Washington.
