Senate updates budget proposal

The state Senate unveiled an updated budget proposal over the weekend and, for WSU, is nearly identical to the one it had previously proposed.

It funds medical education expansion at WSU Spokane, fully funds the university’s maintenance level baseline and increases base funding by $17.9 million. It assumes no tuition increases for resident undergraduates over the next two years but assumes a 20 percent surcharge on international students. That amounts to about $4,800 per student.

The House unveiled its updated budget proposal last week. For WSU, it also was quite similar to its earlier proposal.

This special session is scheduled to conclude Tuesday. A second special session, if needed, could begin as soon as Wednesday.
