WSU campus exceeds expectations with Legislature’s support

A study released last week by national health care and higher education consulting firm Tripp Umbach details how the WSU Spokane Riverpoint campus is exceeding expectations with an annual economic impact of $350 million on the greater Spokane community

Paul Umbach, president and CEO of the consulting firm, highlights the commitment Washington’s lawmakers have made to the Riverpoint campus, allowing for accelerated economic growth. That’s particularly true as it relates to the construction of the Biomedical and Health Sciences Building, which is scheduled to be completed this fall.

Supplementing WSU local funds, the Legislature approved $46.4 million for the design and construction of the $79.9 million facility. The building will provide increased capacity for medical education and will accommodate the consolidation and expansion of the WSU College of Pharmacy in Spokane.

WSU is now seeking operating funding from the Legislature to support the expansion of medical education and biomedical research at the Spokane campus.
