Legislature adjourns, final capital budget invests in WSU projects

The Legislature adjourned sine die Saturday evening after final passage of the state’s next two-year capital budget. The capital budget, Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill 5035, passed the Senate with a vote of 47-0 and the House with a vote of 79-4.

Gov. Jay Inslee signed the capital budget into law Monday afternoon. Legislators made a significant commitment to Washington State University in capital budget appropriations:

  • $30.335 million to complete design and construction of a state-of-the art interdisciplinary Clean Technology Building;
  • $500,000 for predesign of the Plant Sciences Building on the Pullman campus. This will be the next building in the Research and Educational Complex;
  • $28.564 million for minor works preservation and renewal to address growing requirements;
  • $2.021 million for renovations to Troy Hall, a 1920s brick building in the core of Washington State University’s Pullman campus;
  • $225,000 for predesign of a new Plant Growth Greenhouse Facility capable of supporting innovative teaching and research with greater precision, efficiency and security;
  • $2.792 million for design and construction of the Viticulture and Enology Building at the WSU Prosser Research Center;
  • $2.114 million to construct an addition to the Agricultural Technology Building at WSU’s Irrigated Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Prosser;
  • $300,000 for WSU to prepare benefit-cost analyses of the Yakima River Basin Integrated Plan Projects;
  • $1.5 million to the Pullman Pedestrian Bridge project;
  • $10.115 million for preventative maintenance and repair, and;
  • $10 million to construct a WSU building on the University Center of North Puget Sound campus.
