Cougar crimson license plates bolster WSU scholarships

Nearly $500,000 in scholarships have been awarded to WSU students through funds generated from the 17,200 Cougs who own WSU crimson license plates. The plates significantly increased scholarship awards for the 2012-13 academic year, the WSU News Center reports.

In 2011 WSU government relations, with major assists from Rep. Sam Hunt and Sen. Michael Baumgartner – both WSU alums – worked with the Department of Licensing to get the new crimson plate design approved.

“There is a huge potential to see even more crimson plates on the road,” says WSU Alumni Association President Ken Locati, a 1985 graduate. “With more crimson plates on the road, the Alumni Association can help provide more scholarship support for WSU students.”

Each crimson plate yields $28 per year, which goes directly to student scholarships. You can find out more information about the WSU license-plate program here.
