Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) was on the Washington State University (WSU) Pullman campus on Friday.  The Senator took time out of her schedule to tour the Plant Growth Facility and meet with students and faculty from the College of Agriculture, Human and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS).  In addition, to meeting with local growers and key stakeholders from the Washington State Grain Commission.  During her visit, Senator Cantwell highlighted the importance of the recent passage of a five-year farm bill and the positive impact the legislation provides in supporting the economy across Washington State.  She praised WSU for our research that positively impact growers competitiveness in the global market, especially in Asia.

While traveling through Yakima on Thursday, Senator Cantwell spoke on the importance of funding in the Farm Bill for the National Clean Plant Network that partners nurseries and researchers and specialty crop research at the Benton City’s Inland Desert Nursery.  The Senator has been touring Washington State during the recent state work period.  When she returns to Washington, DC she will begin a new role as Chair of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
