Coach Leach visits Olympia

The state Senate today approved a resolution honoring the 1915 Washington State College football team, which went undefeated and won the 1916 Rose Bowl.

Current coach Mike Leach watched from the rostrum and spoke to the chamber during a morning visit featuring brief visits with legislators. You can read the Spokesman-Review’s coverage here.

Senate Resolution 8715, sponsored by Sen. Michael Baumgartner, honors the undefeated 7-0 record of the 1915 WSC football team that “allowed only one opponent touchdown all year and is still revered as one of the most dominate defensive college football teams in West Coast history.”

The 1915 team was invited to the January 1, 1916 Tournament of Roses football game, later dubbed the Rose Bowl, to play Brown College in a nationally anticipated matchup of East vs. West football. The then Washington State Warriors defeated Brown 14-0.
